It’s been a busy summer. With help from Jesse Elliott, I finished the draft for a new book on why the place you choose to live is the most important decision you’ll ever make. I’ll be talking more about that, posting sections and eliciting your ideas and opinions in the weeks and months to come. The book is slated for publication in late summer/early fall 2007.
I also finished the preface to the new, updated paperback edition of the Flight of the Creative Class which will be released in April 2007.
I’m working on various other projects. With Tim Gulden of the University of Maryland, I’ve been working with satellite data to try to identify the world’s economic regions. Early versions of that work appeared in an article for Newsweek International. I just had a look at the new data and maps Tim has developed and they are amazing. I hope to post them here soon.
A new piece is coming in the Atlantic Monthly this fall on the means migration–the mass migration of highly educated/talented/creative people to a relatively small number of regions in the United States.
And finally, we’re part of a major new study of the Greater Washington DC creative economy being led by Steve Pedigo, my former CMU student, who is now heading up research for the Greater Washington Initiaitive.
Welcome! You’re now part of the Creativity Exchange, the official blog of Richard Florida Creativity Group. We’ve launched this blog in order to build a space for an ongoing dialogue about place, creativity, culture, and economic growth. Please join in.
