Hello, Columbus

Columbus
Just back from Columbus, Indiana where I addressed the Chamber of Commerce/ Young Professionals annual meeting. Columbus, just outside of Indianapolis, is home to Cummins and is one of the world’s great centers of modernist architecture (that’s Eliel Saarinen 1942 First Christian Church pictured). I  got to spend some time with Mayor Fred Armstrong, Tracy Souza of the Cummins Foundation, and the energetic new president of the Chamber, Jack Hess. I was so impressed with the strategy he outlined during his presentation, based on a combination of Jim Collins, Michael Porter and my own thinking, that I asked Hess for his slides.

The value creation hierarchy in the downloadable PPT is worth hovering over. In theory, your blog has nothing to do with my business, but it’s becoming my favorite read. (maybe the lesson is: your topic is relevant to anybody’s business). Thanks for sharing really great material!

I’m really impressed with the ultimate goal- to be an entrepreneurial region. Very rare for Chambers to have such a bold vision. Their focus on the entrepreneur is the correct one. Their focus on development of civic entrepreneurs/leaders is probably one of the key components often missing in the development of entrepreneurial leaders.

This is really good stuff, Rich. Thanks for posting it.
