		<description>I&#039;ve always viewed such obvious status symbols (or extremely fancy cars, etc) as a signal that the individual isn&#039;t truly confident in themselves or thier ability.  Those who can typically don&#039;t need to prove it through conspicuous status symbols.

I wouldn&#039;t be surprised if a similar effect was the ultimate cause here.

Maybe having the CEO in your city has disadvantages -- especially if they&#039;re a hired gun and not the founder. Buying big house for status may hint that they took the job as &quot;rent seeking&quot;, which as I understand it is economist-speak for &quot;something for nothing&quot;. It might also indicate that they aren&#039;t looking after the long-term interests of the company and its workers, but focus on short term stock prices.
