What do you think about Second Life, Apple after collaboration, and using R&D to stay ahead?

I’ll be curious to see what’s said about Second Life… I’ve written a few informative articles about that platform but, personally, it makes me uncomfortable. And, frankly, it’s not fun. It’s tedious. I tried it to research my pieces and didn’t like it, couldn’t get it, just wanted out, out, out. The technology of it is groundbreaking I suppose… different, new, etc., but the idea that people are carrying on lives outside of their own – or, rather, in place of their own – is actually depressing.
They’re going to class in Second Life, starting businesses, and there are even griefers who are wreaking havoc with guns and other weapons. Second Lifers turn themselves into new people with different bodies and clothes and personalities. Is no one happy with who they are these days? Why can’t folks try out their Second Life tactics in the real world and see how their ideas of entrepreneurship serve them in real time? Why not interact with real human beings and get away from the computer for a little while? I just want to read a book and have stimulating face-to-face conversations with people. A day without attachment to my computer is a very good day indeed.
