L.A. Singles Map

To find our where the best ratios are in SoCal, click here (h/t: Paulo Raposo). Lots of blue for boys, but Beverly Hills, Hermosa Beach, and Manhattan Beach read pink – that is with greater percentages of single women to men. And, no, the data compiled by the LA Times from the 2000 U.S. Census do not take gays and lesbians into account.

The data changes dramatically with age — switch to 45 and up and almost the whole map goes pink. But it’s also interesting how small some of the numbers are — the Manhattan Beach 18-24 singles scene is only 1,342 people, with 18 more women than men. That sounds a lot like many high schools…

The older the age cohort, the pinker the map will get – anywhere in the nation. That’s because women on average live longer than men.

I know that — I just didn’t expect the effect to kick in so young. Across the U.S., the number of females 45-54 is only 3.7% greater than the number of males, but I guess that difference would get magnified by looking at only singles.
