I'm like Woody Allen. The thought of all those insects and animals lurking nearby in the countryside makes me nervous. I always have a profound sense of relief when I return after a holiday and get back to mixing it with crack dealers, car thieves and lonely old perverts in the city.

I live @ the beach. Here's the problem with living in such a setting. Income. Great place to live if your wealthy or have a source ( job) that allows u to collect $$ from some other place. I once had a business here and made an ok living. The building it was in wasn't mine and got sold and that was the end of my business. That was 13 yrs. ago and since then I've already been through another career in computers. Now those jobs are gone as well as the economy tanks. Now , I'm trying my hand at making art and writing as well. At 60 it's much more problematic to start over again, but I have no choice. It's almost as if my own life is right where the larger economy is right now. Strange and not very comforting.

Interesting piece. Through the last 12 years of living in the city I have always had places with small yards or within a few blocks of a park. I also always have a dog so it brought me out to the natural parts of the urban landscape a few times a day.

All that said, I moved out to the 'close in' burbs about 6 months ago and the decrease in 'depleting stimulation' on the street has been great and has lowered my stress level. If the theory in the article is correct I should also be making better decisions. That is unclear at this point.
