On the “map fun” link you can choose congressional districts, which are much more interesting than states. Aside from Utah and Wyoming, the high well being regions correspond closely with Creative Class cities.
What is it with Utah and Wyoming? Mormons tend to be more financially secure, in fact you could almost call them religious socialists. My wife’s relatives in Ogden are a little enclave of Italian Catholics and seem to be pretty typical rural Americans. Wyoming???! Does isolation and the chance to see Robert Redford occasionally create bliss?
