Of course Sweden isn't Norway, but MacDonalds keeps popping up in the Stieg Larsson books (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, etc.) The characters seem to alternate between junk and ethnic foods. Three books and not one smorgasbord mention. Nor any vegetables that I can remember, probably a very short growing season.

In one of the books there's a substory about the high cost of housing in Sweden. The average household budget by categories in Scandanavia is probably significantly different than the US.

Michael--You'd be surprised to see the food costs in Norway. Mac Donalds is the only thing you can afford if you come from somewhere else :-)

I wonder what real food costs in Norway? In the US you'd have to be nuts to pay $7.20 for a Big Mac, you can get much better food for that price.
