I have always found absolute number not so informative.

Cost of living factors SF vs Brownsville are much different....a normalized number would be interesting to see.

Salinas doesn't seem likely. It is a fairly long drive to Silicon Valley and is mostly agricultural. Lots of Mexicans live in Salinas, and many of them do not seem to be involved in high paying occupations.

Salinas??? I have an aunt and a sister-in-law who live there and it doesn't seem very affluent to me, at least not the parts I've seen.

Maybe the census region includes Monterey & Carmel, which are upper income? Or maybe the salaries are by where people live rather than where they work and includes Silicon Valley commuters?
