A few cons to Murrells Inlet and Charleston: Homeowners insurance is high and getting higher, the public schools are not good, and if you are a single woman or are politically progressive you won’t find this area ideal. The state was just listed as an endangered natural habitat and then we have our politicians; Mark Sanford, Andre Bauer, Joe Wilson, Wallace Scarborough, etc. I’ve been a Realtor here since 1993 – but I’m very forthright and honest!

Well, our property taxes ended up being a little over $800 this year! One tenth of the ones in Austin! Still loving it here!!!

Thanks for posting that information. I spent a long visit in Austin and although it was nice, it did remind me in some ways of a smaller Houston. Any areas in or around Murrells Inlet, SC that have bars hosting Alternative Music Bands and Independent Coffee Shops? Those are things I look for in a city along with an eclectic mix of people, so I don’t stand out in a crowd.

Thanks for posting information about Murrells Inlet on Who’s your City. I’ve lived in many places from Michigan, to Florida, Houston and now Austin, and I’m still looking for that perfect place … with a BEACH! Austin’s been great for raising kids but I plan to check out your city when I’m in SC for work next month. It sounds like a great place.
