Atlanta is nothing like San Fran! There is a complete East/West dichotomy. But it is more affordable...traffic is awful. Live inside the Perimeter.

You can afford it if you think you can. You've already defeated yourself by deciding that you can't. If you want to live there, just make the decision. You will find a way to make it work. Millions of others already do!

DeLani, I feel your pain. I grew up in Little Rock. I moved right after school due to the limited opportunities at that time. I've lived in SF,NYC, Chicago, Miami, Atlanta, DC. All of these places have good things and bad things. In the past 8 yrs there has been an exodus from SF and California to places like Atlanta and Charlotte. Atlanta has a very similar feel to SF but without the natural beauty. Atlanta is much cheaper. you can live in a hip neighborhood with many places to walk to for under $160k for a loft condo. or under $275k for a house in a really nice neighborhood within 15min of down/midtown. Similar places in SF will cost you about $1.2mil to start.
