These have dropped since last week on the hardback list. Obama Nation is now #7 and the Case Against is #10 (both with the symbol the Times uses to indicate large bulk orders -- someone is buying a lot to give away, or to boost numbers.)

In nonfiction paperback, Sarah is #3 but the Audacity of Hope is #6 after 38 weeks on the list, Change We Can Believe In is #8 and Dreams of My Father is # 10.

I think the anti-Obama polemics are a test of whether/how his campaign will fight back against the slander. My belief is that Kerry lost votes over the swift-boat issue not because people believed them, but because he didn't respond strongly enough.

Whether pro or con, the public is hungry to know about Obama. They already know McCain for better or worse. The books will be part of it, along with the debates and the campaigns.

I suppose biographers can always hope for a high-profile event to throw their subject in the limelight again so that their books get reprinted and have new life rather than being returned to the publisher as overstock (I'm talking most specifically about the final title on this list).
